1. Moving in.

Hello, new residents! Please excuse the dust and construction.

Take a seat on those boxes you've been unpacking, and tell us what you hope to accomplish this week.

And no, I don't mean hanging up those paintings! What are you going to do to earn your rent?

Right, let's get started!

I'm trying to learn to plan my projects better, instead of starting with some characters and a really vague "they should do cool stuff" plan. This week I'm going to try going through some of the steps of the snowflake method and see if I can come up with something like an actual outline. :3

If you're willing to babble, I'd be interested to hear how you find the snowflake method. I've read it through a couple of times before and always end up cringing at it for some reason.

Also, some cheerleading: \o/ planning!

Absolutely! I'll probably be talking about how it's working for me when the end-of-week post comes up -- I agree that the presentation on the site is pretty cringe-inducing; it has a really...I don't know, marketing-speak feel to it that I don't really like. But it sounds like there might be an idea in there that I could use, so I'm willing to give it a try.

My biggest goal of the week is to fight the discouragement that has overwhelmed me just over the past week.

I need to balance the overtime at work and shuttling kids with writing. That's particularly difficult for me right now.

I want to make a decision about whether or not to participate in NaNo. If so, I need to start plotting the novel I'll write then.

I need to make decisions about whether or not to keep editing on what I'm working on.

I need to try to gain some clarity in my long-term goals.

So, mostly decision-making and plotting for me this week.

Little steps! My goal is 2500 words and a sketch for Aarde.

For now, I'm going to keep things simple: 1000 words of writing for the week.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year and am using this month to flesh out the idea I have in mind. I'm giving 30 Days of Worldbuilding a try since it appeals to my desire for structure with wiggle room. So this week, I'd like to get up through Day 10.

That's a great link, Penny. Thanks! :)

[personal profile] royalarchivist 2009-10-05 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And good luck with NaNo this year. :)

:D Isn't it? [personal profile] lassarina posted it in a thread on [personal profile] cypher's journal, and I'm glad I clicked on it.

And thanks for the good luck on NaNo wishes. I know I'll be needing them.

I have something for a fic exchange due on the ninth, so my big writing goal this week is to complete that, and to not get too hung up on the research while I write.

Secondary goals: continue exploring and expanding the outline for my possible NaNo project, solidify the structure for my [profile] bb_shousetsu piece, write something every day so I get back into the habit of doing that.

Goals!

This week: A total of 3000 words (so, less than 500 per day).

At least 1000 of those must be original-fiction related.

Also, complete each of my currently planned daily exercises to prep for NaNo.

This week, I'd like to fully flesh out an outline and character bios for my novella. I would also like to get out 700-1500 words of the story.

Hmmm...this week I would like to finish part three of my halloween story for fictionpress. Let's say...five hundred words a day?

I'm developing the plot for my NaNoWriMo novel and finishing up some tags for my RP's.

The Twelve Kingdoms fanfic that I'm currently in the middle of, Warrior Queens and Cranky Unicorns, needs to get beyond the first chapter. Say...up to the first action scene where shit blows up.

Need to finish the writing piece for the prompt "Instep".

I've been feeling... fussy and discontented with my writing lately, so my goal this week is pretty simple - write a little bit every day, and try to finish at least one thing out of the pile that I've started. I figure once I've gotten back on the horse, so to speak, I can start dealing with bigger and fancier goals. Right now, I need to just deal with getting away from the point where I don't finish anything because I get dissatisfied with it and push it aside. :P

[personal profile] royalarchivist 2009-10-05 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I had some vague plans to continue world building to help me plan for my NaNo project, but thanks to Penny's 30 Days of Worldbuilding link I now have more concrete plans for world building. Let's say Days 1-10 by EOD Saturday, since some of that stuff is already done. :)

This week? Considering that this week is almost over, I'll be happy if I can figure out more about my main character. Hopefully I can write a short ficlet about him, too?
